A team of nine veterinary surgeons is on a mission to raise money for the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals hospital in Margate.

They will be completing challenges throughout the year to hit their fundraising target of £5,000.

On April 9 the group will take on the Born Survivor challenge, a 10km race with a lot of mud and more than 30 obstacles between them and the finish.

One member of the team Jess Quinlan said: “I’m excited but at the same time really nervous.

“Running outside has never been my favourite thing and usually I avoid it at all costs, especially when it involves getting wet feet as this is one of my worst nightmares.

“I have been training since October and I am just hoping that I can make it through to the finish line, all the support we have had so far from the public and PDSA has really helped.”

On April 24 two of the girls will run the London Marathon.

Jess will then be taking part with two other team members in a world record skydive attempt on June 20.

They will be attempting the most tandem skydives from 15,000 feet in 24 hours.

She said: “The skydive is something that I’m really excited for because it is a world record attempt and we are really hoping to smash it, however it is also my first time jumping out of a plane.

“I am incredibly nervous, however what is getting me through is thinking about the amount of awareness and sponsorship we can generate to keep our services running for the people who need us.”

The PDSA is the UK’s leading veterinary charity and has been providing free veterinary care for the pets of people in need since 1917.

All nine of the group joined the charity on September 1, 2015, having been selected to join the PDSA graduate scheme.

Each year PDSA must raise in excess of £60 million pounds to fund their services.

Jess added: “It is so important to raise this money and raise awareness about the work that we do because a lot of people still don’t know who we are.

“The PDSA helps people who are no longer able to afford veterinary care for their pets.

“One of my favourite parts of the job is seeing the relief or happiness on owners’ faces when we are able to fix a problem, provide treatment or offer advice when needed.
