Two men taken to hospital after flat fire in Athelstan Road, Margate

Ambulance crews took two men in their 40s to hospital for the effects of breathing in smoke after a fire in a flat.

Firefighters were called to the property in Athelstan Road, Margate, just before 3am today amid reports smoke was seen billowing out of the home.

It was initially believed an adult and two children were unaccounted for, and crews wore breathing apparatus to search.

Two men in their 40s were found, and given oxygen therapy, before being taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police and UK Power Networks were also called out to the first floor flat, and it's thought those living on the middle floor will also need to be rehoused.

it's not yet known what caused the fire.
