He then attacked the man leaving cuts to his face.

Murphy admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a blade in prison on Sunday, October 11, 2017, and was sentenced to six years.

It must be served in addition to six and half years Murphy is already serving for prison mutiny and six years for robbery.

Det Con Simon Mather of the Medway Prison Investigation Team said: "Murphy’s violent tendencies clearly show him to be an extremely dangerous offender who thinks nothing of causing serious harm to other individuals.

"His offending is aggravated by the fact he made a conscious decision to possess and use a weapon in a controlled environment.

"I am pleased we have secured justice for the victim."

The court case comes after new figures show an increase in the number of attacks on prison officers in Kent jails.
