A family fun day organised by a mum who lost her baby son to cot death has raised hundreds of pounds for charity.

Dante’s Crusade took place at Seashells Children and Families’ Centre in Rose Street, Sheerness, on Saturday.

It was organised by Jo Murphy, of Winstanley Road, Sheerness, in memory of her one-month-old son Dante, who died of cot death in May.

Dozens of people went along to the fundraiser and joined in with activities which included balloon making, a raffle, face-painting, wet sponges, a bouncy castle and games.

Music was provided by Steve the Fiddle.

Mum-of-seven Jo organised the event to raise money for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID).

It raised about £340, which will be added to the total raised at a sponsored walk Jo has organised for this Saturday.

A group of more than 30 people will be walking nine miles from Sheerness train station to Sittingbourne train station dressed in pyjamas – whatever the weather.

Jo, 31, said: “I’m really pleased with what was raised – I didn’t expect it to go that well.

“The kids were loving it and I ended up in tears because of all the support there was. It was so nice.”

Eileen Jackson, support and outreach worker at Seashells, said she wanted to thank Sheerness businesses Tesco, Images hairdressers, John Setterfield green grocers, The Flower Company, Black Pearl, Pitney’s Balloon Shop, McDonald’s and Nursery World for their donations of raffle prizes as well as Seashells staff for helping out.
