Big demand for furniture charity's help

A CHURCH providing furniture for disadvantaged families needs more items after demands for its service has almost trebled.

The Gateway Church, based at North School, Ashford, began providing furniture, fridges and beds in April.

While it originally predicted it would provide for 115 families in the first six months it has found 300 have needed its help.

Church leader Graham Hall said: “We have had much higher demand that we anticipated so we would ask people to donate unwanted but useable items.

“We are also desperate for volunteer drivers.”

The church has set up a centre for this work, which is for both those on low incomes and those on benefits.

It is called Gateway Furniture and Baby Equipment and at the Old Corn Store at Dover Place, Ashford.

Anybody who can help should contact the Gateway Church on 01233 638878.
