During the incident a car was driven at a pedestrian who was taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

Three men from Chatham, aged 38, 42 and 37, were arrested nearby on suspicion of affray and taken into custody. They have been bailed until February 1.

Officers also recovered two bladed items and a hammer following a search.

The scene of the incident, outside a parade of shops and just yards from Wayfield Primary School, remained cordoned off yesterday morning, with police tape around part of the road and a nearby grassy area.

Officers and their vehicles are also in the road.

CCTV footage seen by KentOnline shows a number of men outside the shops and on the area of grass, and a car being driven erratically around the area.

At one point the car drives towards the group and collides with a man in the street.

One of the men then appears to throw an object at the car, which is then driven a short way down the road, before turning around and chasing another man over the green.

A man is then carried away from the scene by another man and put in the passenger seat of another car, which is then driven from the area.

This morning, tyre marks are visible on the grass, and an officer was spotted taking photos at the scene.
