Woman horrified to find workmen digging up trees outside Bramling Way, Rainham

A woman was horrified after finding workmen digging up “perfectly good trees” near her home.

Jude Grief discovered the workers in Bramling Way, Rainham, on Wednesday morning (September 6).

She said: “I’ll admit some of them were dead but they were ripping up other perfectly good trees.

“I went up to the people and they told me the reason they were being dug up is because, according to Redrow, the council is adopting the road."

Rather than simply remove the trees, the workers replaced them with new versions of the same variety.

However, Jude remained unimpressed.

“The new trees are the same species as established but a different shape,” she said.

“It’s not environmentally friendly at all. It’s made my blood boil.

"Its outrageous and they're not even planting them at the right time of year they're just going to die.

"There's going to be such little difference that I don't understand the point at all."

A Redrow spokesman said it had been told the trees in question were “struggling” and so it arranged for them to be replaced with new trees of the same species.

Jude, who has lived in Bramling Way for five years, said the trees had been there for the same amount of time.

The workers had not watered the new ones, she added.
