2 die after crashes on county's roads

A MAN and a woman have died following two separate crashes on roads in Kent.

A 25-year-old woman, driving a Peugeot 206, collided with a Vauxhall Astra in Boxley Road, Maidstone, on Sunday at about 2am. She later died from her injuries at Maidstone Hospital.

A man from Folkestone died at Ashford's William Harvey Hospital after a silver Peugeot 306 left the carriageway and collided with a street lamp and a tree at Pond Hill Road, Cheriton, on Saturday at around 6.35pm. No other vehicle was involved.

The front seat passenger, a 23-year-old man, also from Folkestone, sustained whiplash injuries. A 20-year-old woman and an 18-year-old woman in the back of the car sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. All were taken to hospital for treatment.

The collision caused the street light to come out of the ground and live wires were dealt with by EDF Energy. The road was closed until 10.35pm while and the Serious Crash Investigation Unit (SCIU) attended.

The SCIU are investigating bothincidents and is asking anyone with information to call its witness appeal line on 01622 798583.
