Play resumes at 5.30pm in Canterbury

OVERNIGHT rain and a mid-morning deluge led to the loss of 88 overs and a 5.30pm start time on day three of Kent's championship match with Surrey in Canterbury.

The 11am start time on day three came and went as the ground staff continued the clear up, but a deluge just after noon left the outfield awash.

Match umpires Alan Whitehead and Nigel Cowley decided conditions had dried enough to re-start at 5.30pm for 16 overs' play on day three of four.

Surrey resumed on 263 for five - an overall lead of 37 on first innings - and extended that to 279 after 68 overs without further alarm.
