Cody McDonald is hungry to claim another scalp for Gillingham.

And he’s determined to ensure that Brackley Town don’t get another sniff at FA Cup glory when the sides meet tonight in their televised first round replay.

With leading scorer Danny Kedwell an injury doubt, McDonald has put himself at the front of the queue to replace him, having come off the bench to score the winner against Sheffield United at the weekend.

He said: “If Keds isn’t right then hopefully the manager will look to me again and I can do the job again.

“It is going to be a tough game. I thought they were brilliant last week when we played against them. We can’t underestimate them and maybe we did last time.”

The Gills earned a replay thanks to Bradley Dack’s 96th-minute equaliser at Priestfield.

McDonald said: “The manager dug a few of the lads out (after the first Brackley game) and said it wasn’t good enough and we knew it wasn’t.

“We were probably lucky towards the end to nick the goal but it does show that we still have it in the tank to keep going and get that late goal.”

McDonald himself has progressed through the non-league ranks and knows what kind of determination they’ll be up against.

He said: “We can’t underestimate them but if we perform like (we did Saturday), then we should get a good result and then face another tough one in the next round.

“But we’re not looking any further than Monday. We know how hard that will be and we have to put in a professional job.”
