GP surgeries at risk of closure in Medway

Nearly a third of GP surgeries in Medway are at risk of closure as doctors are approaching retirement.

The Towns is the third worst affected area in the country for potential closures because of ageing GPs and there aren't enough younger doctors coming through to replace them.

Campaigners say the consequences for patients include longer waits to see a GP and they may not be able to see the doctor they want and could end up with someone who they have no history with.

In an attempt to tackle the problem, the NHS plans to spend an extra £2.4 billion by 2020, but will it be enough? Joe Coshan reports.
