A dozen people were evacuated from their homes as firefighters tackled a blaze in a house in the middle of Sunday's snowstorm.

The fire broke out in an unoccupied end of terrace property in Royal Road, Ramsgate, at about 4pm.

The first floor and roof were well alight when crews from Kent Fire and Rescue arrived.

Two pumps from Ramsgate, two from Margate and one from Thanet attended as well as the height vehicle.

Firefighters were at the scene until 8.30pm.

People in three adjoining homes were taken in by neighbours but allowed to return later.

Extensive damage was caused to the property which it is believed was started deliberately. Investigations are underway.
