Mango juice produced under the Fairtrade flag provided a fitting toast for a double celebration for health food shop proprietor Glen Allramseder . The occasion marked Mrs Allramseder receiving a Fairtrade Pledge from Thanet Fairtrade Initiative chairman Tammy Stewart-Jones and the opening of her new premises in Northdown Road.

Kaylens Health Foods has moved to Cliftonville from Margate’s lower High Street, a development that has enabled the store to stock more Fairtrade products.

Mrs Allramseder, said she had run the Margate store for two and a half years where sadly business had declined and was “very bad”.

She was pleased to welcome existing customers and new ones in her first weeks in Cliftonville and had been gratified by the improved trade.

Mrs Allramseder, who has worked in the health food trade for 20 years, largely in Germany, underlined the importance of supporting Fairtrade.

She said: “Fairtrade farmers should get a good deal for their products. It is very unfair for people over here to just want cheap things all the time. This also comes down to supporting local traders, it is all about making the world a better place.

“Fairtrade products are often produced more naturally and a very high proportion are organic.”

She welcomed new and old customers and TFI members to a Fairtrade tasting at the shop’s official launch.
