Hospital 'will not close'

A HEALTH chief has denied categorically that a hospital will close as part of a NHS shake-up.

Anthony McKeever, Chief Executive of Bexley Care Trust in South London said rumours that the main hospital could be cleared for housing were "completely wrong".

Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup is one of three hospitals facing changes under the NHS review, A Picture of Health.

Doubts remain over whether Queen Mary's will lose its Accident and Emergency department as part of the shake-up.

Mr McKeever said: "It is completely wrong to suggest that we have a hidden agenda to close Queen Mary's. On the contrary, it is very much part of our plans for the NHS in Bexley in the future."
