Gillingham FA Cup hero Curtis Weston targeting more goals

Curtis Weston added another chapter to his love affair with the FA Cup on Saturday.

Weston, pictured, remains the youngest player to have played in a final, after his 89th-minute appearance for Millwall against Manchester United in 2004, aged just 17 years and 119 days.

It was down to more mundane matters at Priestfield in the second round tie against Burton but Weston was the man of the moment again as he notched his seventh goal of the season.

“It was a nice little build-up play for the goal and a good ball from Febian (Brandy) to put me through. The finish wasn’t bad either,” said the 22-year-old.

Weston has been an important asset to Gillingham’s forward line from midfield this season and he’s hoping that while all eyes are on strikers Simeon Jackson and Febian Brandy he can take full advantage.

He said: “You have to be quick because both of them have pace, along with Barcham as well.

“It suits me because I like to get forward and I like to use my pace to get in behind teams. It’s a good front line to play with. If the opposition are too worried about their movement, I can just get in and about like I did on Saturday.”

Weston revealed Saturday’s goal has already taken him past the marker he set at the start of the season.

“I haven’t got a set target but I wanted more than six before Christmas and I’ve done it,” he said. “I just want more and more now.”
