Firefighters battle paper mill blaze

Fire crews have been tackling a massive blaze at Snodland Paper Mill throughout the night.

Ten pumps and two specialist vehicles were called to the site at 5.30pm yesterday after fire broke out in a waste compactor.

The blaze later spread to 500 tons of baled paper.

Firefighters had to use water from the River Medway and on-site hydrants to keep the flames under control.

Among the crews from across the county at the blaze were teams from Snodland and Halling fire stations.
