Bali crash victim speaks
out for first time as he becomes a father

A man suffering from serious brain
injuries after a Bali motorbike crash says his daughter's birth has
boosted his recovery.

Richard Plummer, 32, who grew up in
Loose near Maidstone, was flown to the UK while in a coma following
the accident in July last year.

He is now getting treatment from a
rehabilitation unit at Sevenoaks hospital to learn how to walk
again and use his arms and hands.

His girlfriend Indria Arina, who is
from Indonesia, gave birth to a baby girl on Sunday February 5.

The couple named her Tiana after the Australian
woman who found Richard following the crash and called his parents
and girlfriend.

Richard said: "It's been quite hard,
having your life tuned upside down: one minute I was living life in
Bali and the next I’m here and can't walk or speak properly."

He added: "Tiana’s inspired me to try
that bit harder and do more physio."

Richard’s travel insurance had lapsed
at time of the crash, prompting an emergency appeal to raise the
£80,000 needed to fly him back to the UK in a specialist air
ambulance.

See this week's Kent Messenger
newspaper for a fuller read on Richard's battle for health and his
baby joy.
