Online maps make 'ideal present'

A NEW online personalised site-centred map service offered by Ordnance Survey has been a major success since it was launched six months ago - and Ashford-based Aspect Marketing Services has played a key part in making it a big hit with thousands of customers living in the UK and overseas.

Aspect is the direct marketing, response handling and fulfilment services arm of the Orbital Marketing Services Group, based on Orbital Park, Sevington.

The OS Select service enables customers to create unique Ordnance Survey Landranger maps by selecting the centre of the map, for example their home or other place of interest.

Since it was launched in April, Aspect has been managing the entire fulfilment process from the moment the customer finalises their requirements online through the Ordnance Survey Leisure Mapshop; including map printing, despatch and account handling.

Many thousands of colour maps have been snapped up by customers throughout the UK and from as far afield as Australia, North America and Africa, reports Nick Williams, manager of response & fulfilment at Aspect Marketing. The personalised, full-size Landranger maps are printed on two Hewlett Packard plotters' utilising a Sun Solaris platform.

"The maps are hugely popular as gifts for birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. People choose a favourite countryside walk or a seaside resort or even just their own street. We're expecting a lot of demand for personalised maps at Christmas - they make an ideal festive present," said Nick.
