Old Gravesendians ladies hoping to emulate established teams after 35-35 draw in their home debut against Medway

“It just was really wholesome and felt amazing,” said captain Leah Poppy-Saunders.

“We have had a couple of games and they have been away games. So to have a home game was amazing and we had amazing support from the club, which was incredible.

“The team formed back in July or August last year, just as rugby pre-season started.

“I think I went to the third training session they did so it’s been just over a year.”

They play in a Inner Warrior League and Poppy-Saunders hopes, now they are playing games, they can start to become an established club in the area.

She said: “We love having new girls come down. The feedback we get from new ladies is it’s really welcoming.

"It’s really nice to get that as some of us have been around since near the beginning.

“We are just trying to get established as a team. There’s quite a few around that are established. We want to get as established as them.

“I think, the more games we have, the more likely it is people will want to come and join us. If they have played rugby before, they do want to continue playing games.

“It [playing games] is a great way for them to come and join.”
