Travellers move into field off Coldharbour Road, Gravesend, between Toby Carvery and Morrisons

The people of Gravesend awoke to the sight of about 20 caravans, up to six horses and numerous dogs in a field between a family restaurant and a supermarket this morning.

Travellers moved onto land off Coldharbour Road, close to Toby Carvey and Morrisons, overnight.

About 20 shiny white caravans are parked on the grass as well as a number of other vehicles.

Up to six horses are tied up in the field, including two very young looking ones that were sheltering next to a small horsebox this morning.

Dogs could be heard barking in the makeshift camp.

Both police and Gravesham council believe the land is privately owned.
