She had been shopping and was waiting alone at a bus stop when the male mugger struck "out of absolutely nowhere".

It happened at around 7.45pm on Tuesday.

"I thought maybe I was going to be stabbed. I just saw a black padded jacket, no face," she said.

Next thing she knew the attacker was dragging away her bag and knocked her glasses off.

"He just made off with it," she added.

"Fortunately, my purse was in the other Asda shopping bag."

The 66-year-old secretary described the man as of average height and slim build, but "ran like the devil" adding "he definitely was not a smoker".

He was last seen heading in the direction of Bath Street having stolen a bag containing her work ID and a pair of black gloves.

The shopper said the robbery had left her shaken and had caused her to lose her voice from screaming so much.

But she expressed relief, believing it could have ended a lot of worse.

"I'm just glad he didn't kill me," she added.

It's not the only bag theft reported this week with police launching an appeal for witnesses after a woman's handbag was stolen from her as she sat in her car in Gravesend town centre.

Police say inquiries into these incidents are ongoing.
