Ebbsfleet were taught a harsh lesson about life in Blue Square Bet Premier by title-chasers Wrexham at Stonebridge Road on Tuesday night.

A full-strength Fleet side would have struggled to compete, let alone one inflicted by injury, illness and suspension.

Steve Leslie's third, 12 minutes after the break, killed the game as a contest. They completed a nap hand with player-manager Andy Morrell's second of the night and Jake Speight's 78th minute penalty.

Fleet survived an anxious start, before playing their best football of the night. The turning point coming when visiting keeper, Cameroon international Joslain Mayebi, produced a spectacular save to keep out Liam Enver-Marum's dipping effort.

Three minutes later Frenchman Mathias Pogba headed the Welshmen in front, before Morrell got the second a minute before the break.

Brentford loanee Liam Bellamy made his debut and Michael West came on for the final 24 minutes, his first action for a month, following a hernia operation.

Even at 5-0 down, Fleet still battled away in the closing stages. Gozi Ugwu blazed wide and Ricky Shakes headed past the post, but Wrexham headed home with a fourth consecutive victory.
