Faversham Town boss Sammy Moore wants crowd of more than 1,000 for derby against Sittingbourne at Salters Lane; striker Adebayo Akinfenwa set for home bow

Manager Sammy Moore wants Faversham to attract a crowd of more than 1,000 for their massive Swale derby against Sittingbourne.

Town remain in the Isthmian South East bottom two but a run of three straight home wins has given them a chance of an unlikely escape through the relegation play-offs.

Popular former Gillingham striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is all set for his home debut at Salters Lane this Saturday against a Brickies side who haven’t secured survival themselves.

Moore said: “There’s no reason why we cannot have over 1,000.

“A lot of people I know from the Folkestone area are talking about coming. But I don’t want it to be all about Bayo.

“He’s just strengthening an area where we were a little bit light. Now, we have Shola Ayoola, Bayo and Ronald Sithole.

“But he brings extra interest everywhere he goes. As a club, we will be well prepared for that.

“The club is going in the right direction.

"Hopefully, we can get over 1,000 and Sittingbourne bring a few as well.

“We’re playing good stuff at the minute.”

Sittingbourne are now managed by ex-Braintree boss Ryan Maxwell and have improved recently.

But Moore wants Town’s troops to focus on themselves.

“We just have to focus on ourselves,” he noted. “It’s about what we do.

“We will prepare and look at their strengths and weaknesses, and try to exploit the weaknesses.

“We can only control our own destiny and our performances.

“We can beat anyone on our day. We have six Champions League Finals to come if you like.”

The Lilywhites come into the derby after a 2-1 home win over Burgess Hill last Saturday.

Frontman Shola Ayoola put them ahead in the first half before defender Ollie Gray doubled their advantage, only to then score an own goal.

Moore reflected: “It was really good. We dominated from start to finish.

“We never really felt troubled, we had control of the game. It was a bit scrappy for the first 20 minutes but, yet again, Bailey Vose only had something like two saves to make all game.

“The ball bobbled off Ollie’s shin and went in but, other than that, we didn’t have much to do defensively.

“It’s another game where we’ve got the three points we deserved.”

Ayoola is making a big impact at Faversham.

Moore said: “He has been good.

"There’s still more to come from him but he’s definitely getting up to speed.

“If you want a target man, he’s one of the best in the league and can be one of the best in the league above. On Saturday, him and Ronald caused a threat all game.

“We have a focal point.

"Before we had Shola, it was hard because the ball kept coming back. But now, we can have a goal kick and be up the pitch in seconds.

"I had Lewis Manor at Potters Bar and he did a similar role.

“I’ve been delighted with Shola. He’s getting fitter every game.

“He’s enjoying his football and it’s a great header from him. But with all the stuff you need to do, he did that brilliantly as well.

“Hopefully, it gives him confidence and he can score many more important goals.”

And Faversham have some welcome selection problems, with the Bob Amor Cup also back up for grabs.

“For the first time on Saturday, we had a selection headache,” Moore said.

“But that’s what you want. We need the squad to be as strong as possible.

“Hopefully, everyone comes through training.”

Striker Zak Ansah came off the bench for Southern Counties East Premier Division strugglers Welling Town in a 3-0 home defeat to Bearsted on Tuesday.
